About

In-Webo overview

In-Webo offers tools - "authentication devices" - allowing to secure online operations or transactions with your service providers, such as online banking or electronic payment. These authentication devices - nCode, Toolbar, mAccess - are easy to use and very secure. They progressively replace other methods previously proposed by service providers, such as card readers, USB tokens, or codes sent in text messages, as these methods are inadequate, not mobile, or not very efficient (transmission delay of a short message for instance).

In-Webo also proposes a secure web portal, My InWebo, that allows you to manage your authentication devices and "profile". You may for example add Toolbars on additional computers, replace the mobile phone where you have installed the nCode application, temporarily block or unlock an authentication device, etc. My InWebo also helps in case you lose or crash your authentication devices.

My InWebo is directly accessible from any Toolbar you have installed. Limited features are also available without a Toolbar - e.g. after a crash - by clicking here.

Toolbar

What is In-Webo Toolbar

tb_view_en

...

In-Webo Toolbar is a dedicated authentication tool integrated in the Internet browser.

The Toolbar makes the connexion to your sites and services both very easy ("One click") and very secure.

In-Webo partner sites and services provide you an activation code that allows you to add this site or service to your Toolbar(s). After this, every time you connect to that site, the Toolbar performs a silent strong authentication. This means that no one but you can access to your acount on that site, even in case your password is guessed or copied.

In-Webo Toolbar is therefore both a convenience tool and a security tool, for your sites and for you.

With which browsers and OS does the Toolbar work

In-Webo Toolbar is available for Firefox (Mac OS, Windows, Linux) and Internet Explorer (6, 7, 8). It will soon be available for Chrome et Safari.

How do I get a Toolbar

In-Webo Toolbar will probably be directly proposed by one of your site or service. In any case, you can download In-Webo Toolbar for free by clicking here. To navigate this link, use the Internet browser where you want to install the Toolbar. Then read and follow the installation instructions.

Once installed, this Toolbar must be activated, that is, linked to your My InWebo account (see articles in this FAQ).

How to obtain an activation code

The way to obtain a code to activate Toolbar depends on your actual situation

  • If you have never installed a Toolbar or nCode mobile application, you do not have a My InWebo account: the activation code should have been delivered to you by an In-Webo partner site or service. You may otherwise get a code from our demo web site here. Activating the Toolbar creates a My InWebo account for you.
  • if this is an additional installation, you already have one or several active Toolbars or the nCode mobile application: the activation code is provided in your My InWebo account accessed from this (these) Toolbar(s), or by nCode. Activating the Toolbar does not create a new My InWebo account, nCode is linked to your existing account.
  • if your are restoring your My InWebo account because you have lost or blocked all authentication tools linked to your My InWebo account: the activation code is a restoration key you can request here, with or without a Toolbar, if you have enabled this feature in your My InWebo account. Activating the Toolbar does not create a new My InWebo account, it restores access to your existing account
  • if your are unlocking one of your services because you have lost or blocked all authentication tools linked to your My InWebo account, or because the My InWebo account restoration does not apply to some of your services: the activation code is provided by this site or service provider. Activating the Toolbar will unlock or add this service in your My InWebo account.
Make sure you properly identify the situation and follow associated guidelines: new user OR existing active user OR blocked user with or without restoration capability.

How to activate a Toolbar

After having installed the Toolbar, you need to relaunch your browser. Unless this is a mere version upgrade of an existing Toolbar, you then need to activate it, so that it becomes customized to your sites and services. For this, click on "Activate" button.

If this is the first Toolbar you are activating, you need to define and confirm a Toolbar PIN: this is the secret information needed to restrict access to your Toolbar.

If this is an additional Toolbar, you only need to confirm your Toolbar PIN.

Optionally, you can then name your Toolbar, so that you will be able to distinguish it in My InWebo.

I have several computers, can I have several Toolbars

Yes, you can install as many Toolbars as you need: on several computers, several sessions, or even several web browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, ...).

To install an additional Toolbar and link it to your My InWebo account, download it from the computer / session / browser where you want it installed. Then, activate it with a code obtained through your My InWebo account or your nCode mobile application.

How to suppress a Toolbar

To suppress a Toolbar, you may either delete the application from browser, or suppress the Toolbar from your My InWebo account ('Authentication' panel)

To suppress it properly, do both operations: as the first operation is not seen by In-Webo, the Toolbar may still be seen as active in your My InWebo account.

How to authenticate with In-Webo Toolbar

In the Bookmark menu, select the site or service you want to connect to. The page is displayed. Note: if you are already on the page, you can use the "Connect" button instead of the Bookmark menu.
...
tb_bookmark_en

A browser window opens up and prompts for your Toolbar PIN. This window must display the "phishing seal" you have defined in your My InWebo account. If this information is not correctly displayed, either you are not using your own Toolbar, or there is a security issue with your computer. In this case, you would better not enter your Toolbar PIN.
...

After you have entered your Toolbar PIN, a strong and secure authentication takes place behind the scene. Your transaction is confirmed, or you are securely connected to your account.

What are the Toolbar's other features

  • The Toolbar allows to access to your My InWebo account, just by clicking the "My InWebo" button
  • You may add a site or service with an activation code provided by this site or service, by choosing "Add Bookmark" in the Options menu
  • The Toolbar displays your connection status. Grey, you are not connected, you will need to enter your Toolbar PIN every time you connect to a service. Orange, you may be connected for some services, the Toolbar PIN will not be asked when you connect to such services. Green, you are fully connected, your PIN Toolbar will not be requested for connecting to your services. In any case, if you leave your computer, it is recommanded that you disconnect by clicking on the connection status button. Once grey again, no operation can be done with your Toolbar while you are away
  • You can synchronize your Toolbar if a site or service recently added does not automatically appear, by choosing "Synchronize" in the Options menu
  • You can change your Toolbar PIN by choosing "Change PIN" in the Options menu
  • Finally, you can read messages related to your My InWebo account; it may be an information (some authentication Tool blocked...) or an advice to optimize your account (enable My InWebo account restoration...)
  • What can I do if my computer crashes

Once you have a new or repaired computer, simply download a new Toolbar (see FAQ article), then activate it with an activation code obtained
    • From your My InWebo account, if you had another active Toolbar
    • From your nCode mobile application, if you have installed it
    • By restoring your My InWebo account thanks to a feature available on My InWebo portal (here), if you have configured your My InWebo account to enable such a restoration

If you do not have access to such features provided by My InWebo, all you can do is ask each and any of your sites and services providers for a new activation code.

What can I do if the Toolbar is accidentally deleted

Simply download a new Toolbar (see FAQ article), then activate it with an activation code obtained
    • From your My InWebo account, if you had another active Toolbar
    • From your nCode mobile application, if you had installed it
    • By restoring your My InWebo account thanks to a feature available on My InWebo portal (here), if you have configured your My InWebo account to enable such a restoration

If you do not have access to such features provided by My InWebo, all you can do is ask each and any of your sites and services providers for a new activation code.

What can I do if my Toolbar is blocked

The Toolbar is blocked automatically if 3 consecutive Toolbar PINs are entered. Once blocked, the Toolbar displays a window with an error message, and a link to reset the Toolbar. For this, you need an activation code, which you can obtain

    • From your nCode mobile application, if you had installed it
    • By restoring your My InWebo account thanks to a feature available on My InWebo portal (here), if you have configured your My InWebo account to enable such a restoration

If you do not have access to such features provided by My InWebo, all you can do is ask each and any of your sites and services providers for a new activation code.

    nCode

    What is In-Webo nCode

In-Webo nCode is a mobile application generating One-Time-Passwords (OTP) on demand. These OTP are used to authenticate to your accounts on sites and services that partner with In-Webo. Such authentication is both very secure and very easy, as you do not need to remember an additional password, without being exposed to password guessing. nCode is dedicated to you: it displays only the sites and services you have access to.

    Beyond authentication, nCode features include

    • Adding a site or a service
    • Synchronizing, resetting
    • Changing nCode PIN
    • Managing your other In-Webo authentication tools
    • Managing your digital identities

With which phones does nCode work

    In-Webo nCode is available
    • For iPhone, iOS3.0 and beyond
    • For Blackberry
    • For Android
    • But also for most phones supporting java, more or less all phones shipped to the European market since 2005

In-Webo commits to support any new major mobile platforms.

    How do I get nCode

    • iPhone and iPad : search for 'inwebo' or 'ncode' in the Appstore
    • Android : search for 'inwebo' in Android Market
    • Blackberry : search for 'inwebo' in Blackberry App World ou type m.inwebo.com in the browser on your Blackberry
    • Any other mobile phone : enter m.inwebo.com in the browser on your phone. nCode download portal will automatically detect your phone model and push the right nCode version. Then read and follow installation instructions. In some cases, if the phone cannot be recognized, you will be proposed a version that should work for your phone. Note: some of In-Webo partner sites and services propose to receive a short text message containing the download url, so that you do not have to type it in the phone browser.

Once installed, nCode must be activated (see articled in this FAQ).

Where is nCode installed on my phone

This depends ... on your mobile phone.

If you have downloaded nCode from an application store (AppStore, Android Market, App World, etc.), nCode should be in the folder where downloaded apps are usually stored.

In any case, nCode should be in an 'Applications' folder or menu. On some phones, it may even be in a 'Games' folder.

How to obtain an activation code

The way to obtain a code to activate nCode application depends on your actual situation

    • If you have never installed nCode mobile application or a Toolbar, you do not have a My InWebo account: the activation code should have been delivered to you by an In-Webo partner site or service. You may otherwise get a code from our demo web site here. Activating nCode creates a My InWebo account for you.
    • if this is an additional installation, you already have one or several active Toolbars: the activation code is provided in your My InWebo account accessed from this (these) Toolbar(s). Activating nCode does not create a new My InWebo account, nCode is linked to your existing account.
    • if your are restoring your My InWebo account because you have lost or blocked all authentication tools linked to your My InWebo account: the activation code is a restoration key you can request if you have enabled this feature in your My InWebo account. However, this restoration key cannot be entered in the nCode application; please refer to the "How to activate a Toolbar" article in this FAQ.
    • if your are unlocking one of your services because you have lost or blocked all authentication tools linked to your My InWebo account, or because the My InWebo account restoration does not apply to some of your services: the activation code is provided by this site or service provider. Activating nCode will unlock or add this service in your My InWebo account.
Make sure you properly identify the situation and follow associated guidelines: new user OR existing active user OR blocked user with or without restoration capability.

    How to activate nCode

Unless this is a mere version upgrade, you need to activate nCode, so that it becomes customized to your sites and services. For this, launch the application on your mobile and enter your activation code (see article in this FAQ on how to obtain an activation code).

The activation process is now completed. You can enjoy using In-Webo nCode application.

I have several mobile phones, can I have several nCode applications

For the time being, In-Webo only allows one nCode application per user. Of course, you can install an nCode application both on your company phone and on your personal phone, in order to split business and private use. You would then have 2 distinct My InWebo accounts.

    How to suppress nCode

To suppress nCode, you may either delete the application from your mobile, or suppress nCode from your My InWebo account ('Authentication' panel)

To suppress it properly, do both operations: as the first operation is not seen by In-Webo, nCode may still be seen as active in your My InWebo account.

    How to authenticate with nCode

When one or your site or service requests a strong authentication - and if you are sure to be on the correct web site and not on a phishing site -, launch nCode application on your mobile phone and select appropriate site or service in the Bookmark list. You may be prompted for your nCode PIN on the next screen.

An OTP ("One-Time-Password") is displayed by the nCode application on your mobile phone. You have approximately 45 seconds to type it into the site or service authentication form.

    ...
    nc_authentification_fr

    ...

Note: select "Not entered" choice if you have not or could not enter the OTP in the authentication form, so that your nCode mobile application will never desynchronize. If you entered the OTP but the authentication failed, select "Ok" and ask for a new code.

Why am I asked whether or not I entered the OTP

nCode implements a local OTP generation process, meaning that no communication takes place with any server. As a benefit, you can obtain an OTP in any circumstances, you do not even need to be under mobile network coverage. There are other direct consequences:
    • After the OTP has been displayed, you are given the choice between 'Ok' and 'Not entered'. Select 'Not entered' only if you did not submit the OTP to the authentication form of the site or service you want to connect to.  By default, nCode will understand you have submitted the OTP - which is what nCode is made for, after all.  Do not worry if you happen to select 'Ok' instead of 'Not entered', or vice-versa. However, after several wrong selections, you may have to resynchronize nCode. nCode will then spontaneously propose a resynchronization.
    • If you selected 'Ok', nCode proposes to generate another OTP. The choice has no impact on the synchronization of nCode; this is a mere short-cut so that you do not need to go back to the main menu if the authentication has failed and you need another OTP. By default, nCode will assume you do not need an additional OTP.
    • For security reasons, nCode does not store you nCode PIN. This means that nCode will display an OTP even if you typed a wrong PIN; in this case, of course, the authentication fails. This allows to protect your accounts by blocking nCode if 3 consecutive OTP are generated from your phone and submitted to one of your sites or services. This is very similar to the way your phone PIN and your credit card PIN work.

    What are nCode's other features

    • You can add a site or service with an activation code provided by this site or service, by choosing "Add Bookmark" in the menu
    • You can synchronize nCode if a site or service recently added does not automatically appear, by choosing "Synchronize"
    • You can change your nCode PIN by choosing "Change PIN"
    • You can activate or reset other authentication tools ("Add Toolbar", "Reset Toolbar")
    • You can change default language for nCode ("Change language")
    • Finally, you can read messages related to your My InWebo account; it may be an information (some authentication Tool blocked...) or an advice to optimize your account (enable My InWebo account restoration...)

What can I do if my phone gets stolen

nCode works like a smartcard: it cannot be used to access your accounts without you nCode PIN. After 3 authentication attempts with a wrong nCode PIN, nCode is automatically blocked. It is therefore utmost important that you do not store or write your nCode PIN with your phone. In particular, do not write it in an Email if your mail account can be accessed from your mobile phone.

If your phone is lost or stolen, you should

    • Lock nCode from your My InWebo account ('Authentication' panel), or
    • Lock nCode from My InWebo portal (here) even if you cannot access your account, or
    • Directly contact the sites and services where you use nCode and inform them, if you do not have a web access

At any time, if you still have your phone and an access to your My InWebo account, you can reset your nCode mobile application if you fear someone may have had access to it.

If your phone was lost or stolen, once you have a new phone, simply download a new nCode application (see FAQ article), then activate it with an activation code obtained

    • From your My InWebo account, if you have an active Toolbar
    • By restoring your My InWebo account thanks to a feature available on My InWebo portal (here), if you have configured your My InWebo account to enable such a restoration

If you do not have access to such features provided by My InWebo, all you can do is ask each and any of your sites and services providers for a new activation code.

What can I do if nCode is accidentally deleted

Simply download a new nCode application (see FAQ article), then activate it with an activation code obtained

What can I do if authentication fails

First possible cause: an error on your side. For instance, you have entered a wrong nCode PIN, or you have generated an OTP for service A while you wanted to connect to service B. It may also be an error on the previous attempt , like  choosing "Ok" instead of "Not entered" or vice-versa. Simply retry, it will work.

Still not working? Your nCode application may be desynchronized due to too many errors. In this case, use 'Synchronize' option in the menu, or accept the synchronization proposition nCode makes when you ask for several OTP in a short time. Make sure the nCode PIN you enter is correct, otherwise you would block nCode. nCode will try to connect to In-Webo servers, so you need to be under mobile coverage when you synchronize.

Still not working, or nCode indicates it is blocked? You need to reset nCode with an activation code obtained

After having entered your Email address, you will receive a confirmation link in order to validate it. The validation status (ok or no) is indicated in My InWebo.

You can delete this information at any time. In-Webo commits not to use this address for other purposes than the one mentioned above. In particular, you will only receive emails you have directly triggered. In-Webo will not communicate your Email to third parties or partners other than those in charge of operating My InWebo services, and for this sole purpose.

Do I have to give my contact information in My InWebo

Of course not. But it you want to activate the restoration feature, you will need to. The restoration feature allows you to restore your My InWebo account if you have lost all the authentication tools linked to it. Restoring the account will spare your time and avoid you to contact all your sites or services providers to request a new activation code.
